Caius Tacticus' blog about the siege of Warspite Developments in K-3PQW:
The Warspite Siege
Caius felt an almost divine relief he felt his senses being integrated into his ship's controls through his pod systems. He abhorred the hours he was forced to spend with his mind in training programs, and rejoiced at every opportunity to return to the dark skies. With a thought he willed open his com channels. Immediately he noticed something unusual. The Volition Cult Emergency Operations channel was full. He willed a connection inside.
"Whoah guys. What's the situation?"
Jacobus Flint's voice crackled over the com line.
"The world is ending. We are under Warspite assault. The Forge is in reinforced mode, the PBA Starbase has been hit, the Refinery is under attack. The enemy has put up two starbases in K-3"
At that moment, Caius' camera drones and interfacing systems went online, images of his drake class battlecruiser, the VSS Memento Mori, appeared in his consciousness. The local pilot population scan showed K-3PQW with a massive hostile population. Caius' thoughts went racing.
"Does FREGE know about this?"
"They have been notified and are assembling now."
"What can I do?"
"For now we recommend that if you are in K-3, you get yourself safe behind the Forge shields. We have a convoy enroute from the Empires."
Caius was by this time in full control of the ship, and locked his warp drive onto the starbase that ASSTI pilots had affectionately named "The Forge." The silence in K-3, usually a welcome tranquility from the tumult that accompanied the space outside of VOLT territory, now had an eerie quality, a sense of foreboding Caius had never recognized before. It had never felt so good to be admitted into the Forge's shield bubble. Caius allowed himself a mental sigh of relief. It seemed as though the little bubble of serenity that surrounded the Forge was all that stood between those few who remained in K-3 and the raging storm outside. Of course in reality there was no fighting going on at that very second, but there was no avoiding the feeling that all of K-3 outside of that shield bubble was a chaotic inferno.
Minutes seemed like hours as those in K-3 waited tuned in diligently to coms, desperate for news of the convoy and the FREGE fleet. Finally, Agent Stone's voice sounded over coms:
"The convoy is preparing to enter K-3. All pilots should switch to Operation 2 channel and align to C6CG-W gate."
Caius' heart raced as he willed his ship into motion. It was painstakingly slow. The Memento Mori was not meant to be taken on operations such as this, that was job of Caius' favorite class of ships, his interceptors. He cursed his luck for the thousandth time that evening that his Crow class interceptor had been destroyed in a routine defensive operation that had turned into a disaster the night before. He also was critically low on ammo; the starbase hangars were offline due to the assault and he was unable to access the missiles inside. He was unable to dwell on this as Mepheston, the convoy fleet commander, began the briefing.
The pilots were informed that there was a large warp disruption bubble covering the C-6 stargate, that was to be their primary target. Warspite had set up a trap, leaving only one ship on that gate in an attempt to lure the convoy through thinking the gate would be unprotected. It was expected that 20 or more would be warping in to the battle once the convoy began jumping. Caius patiently awaited the order to warp.
"Right, everybody jump! Guys in K-3 we need you here now"
"Im en route," Caius broadcasted as he forced his ship into warp.
"They're warping in!"
'Take that bubble down, I need that bubble down now!"
"They've got me!"
Caius' warp tunnel dissipated onto a scene of mass battle. His interfacing computers were lagging and he was unable to locate the warp disruptor to target it. He felt a sharp pain as his shields started taking hits. He had given up on finding the warp disruptor now, he had to try to give cover to the convoy jumping in. His targetting computers locked the ship that had engaged him- a Claw class interceptor. It was rather foolish of it to have come after him on its own really. He unleashed a volley from all seven of his missile launchers. His interface computers had begun to catch up with the intense amount of input from the fight outside, and he smiled inwardly as he saw the Claw's shields and the majority of its armor integrity melt under his opening volley. The Claw soon decided it was not in a very advantageous position, and used its superior speed to escape Caius' range.
The bubble was still up, and now it was clear Warspite had realized they had an opportunity to wipe out the VOLT defensive fleet before it was even able to enter the system. Enemy fighter drones began to arrive on the gate- Warspite had unleashed their carriers. Caius realized that this could get very bad very quickly. His interfacing computers showed multiple hostile targets locking him. He prepared for the worst.
"Following Mepheston in Warp. Warp Drive Active"
The bubble had been dropped, and Mepheston was evacuating the fleet before they could take further losses.
"We're going to safe spot. I'm sorry if you got stuck on the gate, but it had to be done."
As Caius' warp tunnel activated, he could see there were a few ships who weren't following. They had been trapped by manual warp disruptors. Against the Warspite force assembled at the gate, they would last a few seconds at most. A ship explosion flashed across his screen as his ship left the gate.
"The fighters are following!"
The announcement came across comms- fighter drones were capable of following their targets through warp tunnels. He emerged with the rest of the fleet at the spot in open space that Mepheston had evacuated the convoy to. His interface computers showed a hostile Dragonfly fighter had followed him. He locked it up, and in less than a few seconds the firepower of the full fleet had removed it from existence. When everyone had gathered at the safe spot, the fleet proceeded inside the Forge shield bubble. Caius' computer superimposed a message over the control tower-
'Reinforced - 18:02'
