Formation
Lotka Volterra was an alliance that was formed in December 2005 by the three founding corporations, Shinra, M. Corp, and UK Corp. Shinra and M. Corp had very close ties previously, as both were members of the former Curse Alliance, and The Five.
Lotka Volterra was formed due to a war between The Five and Red Alliance, after a prolonged territorial war fought almost entirely with POS's, with minimal combat - The Five felt that the war was not worthwhile, and went north to take part in more rewarding and enjoyable conflicts. However, after two months of empire and northern conflict, two members of The Five - Shinra and M. Corp wished to return south and form a new entity. After failed negotiations with the Red Alliance, Lotka Volterra formed and took control of Tenerifis.
Lotka Volterra disbanded in summer of 2007 following loss of most of their faction territory, the senior Shinra corp members joining existing Band of Brothers corporations whilst Finfleet joined Band of Brothers as an intact corp. M. Corp formed it's own alliance called M. Pire and relocated to the North following the collapse of Dusk and Dawn, and subsequently joined Mostly Harmless.
Growth and Member Corporations
Since its initial formation, Lotka Volterra has grown considerably - from under four hundred members upon its founding, to 2,669 (12th September 2006).

Enemies
The traditional enemy of Lotka Volterra is the Red Alliance, due to extensive wars that have raged since before the formation of the alliance.
Other enemies include the majority of northern factions, including Dusk and Dawn, Morsus Mihi, Imperial Republic of the North, and Center for Disease Creation, along with enemies in the south such as Curse Alliance, Red Alliance, United Legion, Tau Ceti Federation and Goonswarm.
Territory
Until early 2007 Lotka Volterra held the regions of Tenerifis, Detorid and Omist. Following the evacuation from their home systems in the South East following the Red Swarm Federation invasion, Lotka Volterra briefly established a new home base in the north of the Stain region, however the alliance disbanded shortly afterwards when the senior Shinra membership was accepted into Band of Brothers and the other members corporations left to pursue different aims.
Tenerifis
Tenerifis was the first region that was claimed by Lotka Volterra. When the region was claimed, the previously occupying alliance was the Free Space Alliance, however the space was taken with minimal resistance.
Omist
The region of Omist was a natural progression for the territory of Lotka Volterra. When LV moved into the area, the occupants of the region were Stain Empire and Knights of the Southerncross, who had been fighting for the area. However, whilst Knights of the Southerncross were allies of LV, Stain Empire had taken full control of the region, and as such - LV planned its first offensive - to take Omist. However, on the same day LV launched its attack on Omist, the Stain Empire pulled out of the region and returned to Stain, leaving it to be taken by Lotka Volterra.
Detorid
Detorid had previously been owned by the Chimaera Pact, however when the three main corporations of Chimaera Pact joined Lotka Volterra, the region transferred with them by agreement. Despite its proximity to their Red Swarm Federation opponents Detorid was the final region to fall out of Lotka Volterra control, the frontline system of DG-8VJ being held for several days in a last stand after all other station systems had been lost.
Achievements
On the Twelth of December 2006, LV successfully deployed the third titan, an Avatar a Amarrian Titan, to be used in game. It's first doomsday activation succesfully killed at least 215 Tau Ceti Federation, Red Alliance and GoonSwarm ships. The Titan, piloted by The Enslaver, achieved the highest number of kills with a single doomsday device attack (although included a friendly Covert Ops Ship and Suicide Cyno Transport Ship kill).
