History
Infinite Improbability Inc - in short 3-I - was founded in early November 2003. 3-I was born from the fusion of Transtellar Incorporated (lead by Cmdr Jameson) and Sirius Cybernetics Corp (lead by Trillian Dent and The Forwarder), two small, active corporations. Both had been active in the Devoid area, and also far down south in Immensea for some mining. 3-I kept its HQ in Devoid and also Immensea as its 0.0 haven. Shortly thereafter XETIC/IF claimed Immensea and below regions and made Immensea a protectorate. As we wanted to remain in Immensea and could identify with their goals 3-I was one of the first corporations to join the Immensea Federation.
In these times in zero space life was a lot more hardship then it is nowadays. Immensea along with XETIC's other regions was devoid of stations, and the way to empire a long and dangerous one. Yet we managed and 3-I slowly grew with the challenges.
Not long after joining the Immensea Federation we again grew through another merger. Q-Labs, long standing friends, a research focussed corp, joined our ranks and bolstered our own R&D division. Shortly thereafter the first Tech II came into the game, and this became one of our new priorities. Initially we were just lucky with one nice Tech II BPO. Consequently we however decided to really put a focus on Tech II and our strengthened R&D division. Hard work of our R&D division paired with a little more luck on occasion let it grow continually and become what it is today, a cornerstone of 3-I.
3-I remained based in Immensea and when the first conquerable stations were introduced into the bare NPC-less region of zero space we took over two of them in Immensea. The Factory station of Z-H2MA, christened "Babylon 6" and the through "Forsaken Ruins" famous station of E8-YS9 which we called "The restaurant at the end of the Universe". We managed these for several months, until these were incorporated in XETIC's holding. In spring 2004 3-I was also later promoted into the ranks of the XETIC corporations, then being part in the reformation of XETIC/IF to the Xetic Federation.
We always have been on the more carebear side of things, however when it came to defending Immensea and XF we always tried to do our part. In December 2004, with the onset of "Exodus" a majority of our members due to several reasons were drawn to empire again, a majority vote within the corporation decided to leave XF. Some left easily, other with a heavy heart, a few remained in Immensea within friendly corporations. We still remained on good terms with XF especially when it came to our business relations. In january 2005 3-I and The X-Trading Company initiated the original XETIC Technologies ("XTECH opens") venture which was then also joined by Omega Enterprises and STK Scientific as founding members. When XETIC fractured our joint venture lost STK for political reasons, and OE went their own way to create an own shop. However XTECH, as it then was called, was joined by Haendlergilde and we remained of competitive size.
The XTECH shop, was maintained by 3-I and become a very successfull venture. What started with a rather simple product listing, and ordering via our public channel or personal messaging became a fully developed shopping system in october 2005 "XTECH online shopping opens". The corp itself lived through a relatively calm time back them. Most people being active in empire, only some ventured into 0.0 to Immensea to which we still had access, living our carebear lives.
With late fall of 2006 we decided to become part of something more again. The idea was born out of our business side of operations, to create a neutral business focused powerhorse. Taking XTECH one step further, not just being a corporate joint venture, but a true alliance dedicated to commerce and neutrality. Together with our long standing business partners of The X-Trading Company and also again Omega Enterprises we joined up with NAGA and Eve University to give live to The Big Blue. TBB, however shouldnt become our home for very long, only after starting to jointly working together some differences became clear which couldnt be bridged so easily. As a consequence we decided along with OE and XT to work on that initial idea of a business alliance from another angle, and together founded TRUST.
TRUST as an alliance flourished for months. In early january our outpost "Viribus Unitis" was deployed in EC-8PR, and we sniffed some zero space air again. Initially TRUST continued with 2 brands, the XTECH shop and the OE shop. On the 14th march of 2006 however XTECH closed its doors, and the joint "TRUST Megastore" opened to the public. In April 2006 TRUST launched the first playerbuilt Mothership "Public Announcement". Shortly thereafter EC-8PR was laid under siege however, TRUST's industrial installations destroyed and the Outpost lost. While after the siege the Oupost was recovered, it was then handed over to ISS. Following the EC-8PR incident we also acknowledged that while a broad public might be interested in obtaining capital ships like Motherships, there would be always someone who would not care about being able to obtain them for himself, but rather contest us and our neutrality because public sales meant that everybody, including potential enemies, would have access. TRUST consequently decided to close down its ingame alliance however to continue the business ventures and store.
For 3-I that meant yet again to reorientate ourselves. Since our times in the south we had grown, and many newer members had not seen the deep voids of zero space before. Others still remembered the life and challenges of the south, and our experiences in Pure Blind had sparked more interest again. This let us to the decision to become part of something larger again. To again stake a claim in far lands and to be part of a territorial alliance. This lead us to the newborn Dusk and Dawn alliance.
Being part of a territorial alliance yet again also meant some obvious changes again. Our POSsie's not only had to tend some industrial POS, but also became responsible for system control and security. Our Defence department which previously wasnt much more then occasionally active needed bolstering and a lot of training again. For the mostly empire based RDMS (Research, Development, Manufacturing & Sales) division not much changed and it remained true to its spirit, via the TRUST Store selling to everybody, regardless of affiliation.
With D2 conquering Branch shortly after its founding the region of Branch became 3-I's new home region in the far north. Most of the corporation shifted to 0.0 again and based itself there. While the conquest of Branch was a rather swift one the summer of 2006 nevertheless saw several other conflicts errupting in the vicinity. The pacification of Tribute, the Goon conflict in Cloud Ring paired with a war against NFC and Sparta in Deklein. While the dust in XZH had not yet settled the Tau Ceti Federation launched an offensive on Tribute which should become another long conflict for D2 and its allies.
Seeing so much conflict and the unavoidable need of stronger defences 3-I also opened some recruiting. The pvp oriented recruiting culminated in the merger with a smaller french corp called 'Les chevalliers de l'Ordre [ODN]' who became the core of the newly formed '3-I Knights' division. Although not actively promoting it with our move to 0.0 we found that we attracted again a lot more people. Recruitment was again restricted until it was totally closed by the end of the year, overall we had nearly doubled in sized and grown to about 275 members in size. Our time in D2 was an interesting one, albeit one has to admit that we probably never really fitted into what D2 was meant to be. D2 was like a rollercoaster ride with its ups and downs, sometimes the incoherency of its corporations seemed insurmountable, sometimes they all really pulled together and worked as one.
Who we are ...
Our corporation is made up of a good amount of more casual gamers, although also several 'powergamers'. Our somewhat casual side or laissez faire management has however always been an integral part of 3-I.
Compared to most other corporations we probably a relatively strange management system. The best description is something like 'Wellfare Capitalism'. We are not communistic, and we are not entirely capitalistic on a corporate level, only to the outside who sometimes not see more then our shop. The more a member gets involved, the more that will be rewarded. People who want to go their own ways can do that as well. All within reason and the corporate goals.
While our goals include of course to be a successfull corp, and to support our alliance our corps goals always will include to foster our corporate community and to provide a enjoyable playing experience to our members. Our two main motto's pretty much sum that up .... 'Share and enjoy' & 'Infinite possibilities'
